What is Reiki?
(Rei) is guided, Divine wisdom. (Ki) is the Universal life force within us all, which has other names such as:
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice and stress reduction technique. A certified Reiki practitioner is a conduit of life force energy (that exists in all living things), energizing the client’s body by laying of hands lightly on the client or a few inches above to help relax, clear and balance the client’s mind, body, and spirit. Reiki’s main function activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest) and allows the body to activate its own natural healing processes that return it back to balance. This is a relaxing process in which clients report feeling a deep sense of peace and may actually fall asleep during sessions.
Reiki aids in
- Reduction of stress, anxiety, and depression
- Improved regulation of emotions and hormones
- Clearing negative and old, no longer useful energy (especially helpful for empaths)
- Mental clarity
- Improved focus

- Immune system regulation

To some, this may sound a bit…well, out there. I get it. I honestly was initially a little uncertain until I started experiencing the results within my own life. Think of it this way. Most of us are aware of the detrimental effects stress and anxiety has on our bodies. We are constantly bombarded with information at every moment, technology screaming for our attention, never-ending to-do lists, family + work and maybe even additional school responsibilities, and don’t forget the constant worry and regrets that float along in our mind at every single moment of all the “should be doing…” and “wish I hadn’t done that”. Maybe you have a health condition on top of this all that you are struggling to heal, with pain, with uncertainty. Maybe you have good intentions to change lifestyle habits to take better care of yourself, but for some reason, you keep getting frustrated and just giving up. Maybe you just feel so overwhelmed with all your responsibilities, decisions to make and human beings that you just want to lock yourself in a room and hide (we’ve all been there).
This can be extremely challenging if you are sensitive to the energy around you, such as feeling worse when you are around negative people who pull you down or experiencing many sensitivities to the environment around you (foods, smells, light, sound). What if there was a way to just for a moment, let all of that go? What if you could clear all of that energy and press a reset button? I’m not promising all your problems are going to go away. I can say that you can leave a session feeling more at peace with your current situation, letting go of all the racing thoughts and deepening your connection to your intuition so that moving forward you begin to learn how to listen and follow the guidance you are receiving with more clarity. Your body can begin to relax, stress hormones decrease and your body comes back to a more balanced place where it can begin to safely heal itself as we activate the parasympathetic (rest & digest) side of the nervous system.
Stress in itself can cause many inflammatory signals to be released in our body, which also influences many of our hormones. In turn, these hormones regulate our moods, our energy levels, our digestive system, our ability to regulate our blood sugar and metabolism, our immune system, our ability to think clearly and focus, our sex drive and fertility, and our overall mental, physical and emotional well-being. The entire body works together as a beautiful system, which can be very resilient, but over time may begin to break down if we do not take proper care of it. If we can help out our bodies by reducing these stress levels we can allow our bodies to begin to naturally heal when we turn down the fire inside that stress and anxiety promotes.
Reiki is not intended to treat, diagnose, or cure disease. Reiki aids in the general reduction of stress, which helps assist the healing processes within your body along with other therapies and lifestyle changes.
It is well established that the mind has a powerful influence on our health and well-being. Why not use that to your advantage by clearing away the stress that is bringing you down, and over time release the limiting thoughts and beliefs that are holding you back from your best and highest self.
